As originally designed and built in 1904, the Marine Corps quartermaster depot was an impressive five-story, Greek-styled building made of stone, red brick and concrete, characterized by Ionic-style brick columns complete with scrollwork and cornices. It served as an administrative and warehousing facility, and is located at South Broad Street and Washington Avenue.
In 1908, the building was extended southward to Alter Street - The Marine Corps bought six lots and another building was constructed and connected to the rear of the main building. The interior was then renovated to accommodate the command headquarters, administrative offices and a data processing facility. The basement contained an armory, gymnasium and storerooms.
